Gilles Hilary

Gilles Hilary is a Chaired Professor of Accounting and Control. He is the current Accounting and Business Law Area Coordinator at the McDonough School of Business. He has been a faculty member at Georgetown University since 2016. Before joining Georgetown University, he worked in Asia, in Europe and in the USA.

He has taught in different capacity at Georgetown University, INSEAD, Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, HEC Paris, HKUST, Tsinghua University and several other institutions. He regularly teaches courses on corporate governance, risk management, financial analysis, decision making processes and behavioral finance.

He is a founding member of Cercle-K2, a French think-tank on risk management. He is a Research Fellow (Chercheur Associé) at the French Military Police Academy (CREOGN). He served on the Board of Directors of the French Chapter of the ACFE.

His research has been profiled in publications such as the Financial Times, Le Monde, Handelsblatt, BloombergBusinessweek, Yomiuri Shimbun / Japan News , Forbes India, The Economic Times, The Hindu, the South China Morning Post, among others. It has been published in leading academic journals such as The Journal of Finance or Management Science, among many others. He regularly presents his research at places such as Harvard University, Yale University, Beijing University, or the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, among many others.

He has received multiple teaching and research awards such as the Deans’ Commendation for Excellence in MBA Teaching (INSEAD), the Franklin Prize for Teaching Excellence (HKUST) or the Prix Syntec (French Consulting Association award for best academic research).

He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and a French professional accounting degree (DESCF).
